Activate Your Productivity Flow To Action Your Tasks and Goals
Get into your magical flow state to succeed.
I can’t focus. I feel stuck. I want a strategy to action my goals! I’m scared of not being successful. These are common sentiments today as we all strive to succeed in the goals we set for ourselves, while managing some semblance of work life balance.
We all have our go-to ways of getting things done. Some people love to check off and see their progress as they tick the box off another task, while others may feel the pressure and disappointment when we can’t tick the boxes fast enough and the list grows longer. Can you hear the craziness – madness.
Productivity and time management are key skills we all need in order to meet the challenge of so many distractions that overwhelm and obstruct our ability to progress and execute tasks. To feel like elves in the night, silently working skillfully and quickly until all the work is finished. Magical. No stress, just a flow state of productivity to action all your tasks and goals.
These are some things to consider to create that state of productivity to achieve your goals:
Identify and prioritize key tasks to stay in control of distractions.
We all have the best intention to do as much as we can and get things done. The problem is that intention impels us to create a ruthless and unreasonable ‘to do list’ that inevitably undermines our confidence and doubt in our own competence. When we recognize the value in focusing our energy on achieving the most important tasks and prioritize our time, we take back control and filter out the multitude of distractions that obstruct our ability to be productive. By getting into action mode and achieving set tasks we gain self-confidence and integrity ‘walking the talk’.
Identify the value or cost to motivate action.
Why do we do the things we do? It’s easy to get caught up in doing things we know and put aside the things we regard as not important and “will do it later”. What happens when later gets pushed back and lost in the forever growing ‘to do list’? It cost me losing my lucky pen and favorite ring to understand the benefit of putting things away and being more organized. When we don’t take the time to understand the significance or cost of doing something we lack the energy to get things done. Gaining control of accomplishing things may come by simply underlining the benefit or consequence of a task.
Create accountability and commitment by scheduling tasks.
There are 24hours in a day, 5 days in a week and 365 days in a year! That is a lot of time to get things done and be productive right? So, why is it that we still struggle with our time to achieve our goals? The illusion of so much time can sometimes derail actually carrying out the job as the question around ‘when’ to do it becomes a critical piece of the puzzle around productivity. When we figure out and schedule the time that we are going to do a task, we take away the mystery of when to do it and just get down to actually doing it.
Completing tasks is being productive.
I am super busy and so overwhelmed. Busy can create that adrenalin of moving forward and sense of achieving. But what are we actually achieving? It is so easy to get wrapped up in all the things happening around us that we believe we are getting things done when in fact we never actually complete a task or project. Busy does not mean productive! We need to stop and take inventory of all the things that we are busy doing to check that we are focused on using our time and energy on completing key goals and milestones. With an aim of completing tasks and being mindful of not overcommitting, we set ourselves up for the best kind of adrenalin rush of success.
Focus on end goal to sustain internal motivation and drive action.
When we set big exciting goals, we are super motivated and energized to get going and achieve our vision. We begin planning and preparing and can’t wait to get started. Soon after starting, reality of all the tedious tasks that need to be done sets in and the days start to feel longer and longer. How did we go from being super energized to deflated and dispassionate? It is not surprising that we have lost sight of the end goal that lit up our fire by getting trapped in the day-to-day menial tasks. No motivation. No action. When we step away, we can recall and maintain our focus on the end goal to activate our driving energy and help us push through the inertia of the tasks to achieve our end goal.
